The 2016 CrossFit Open is almost here. On February 25th we will anxiously await the drawn out announcement of 16.1 by Dave Castro. For 5 weeks, we’ll excitedly take bets on what each week will have in store for us. On Fridays at CFB, we will give those workouts our all.
It’s the first step towards the CrossFit Games, but for most of us, it’s not about that. Sure, the competitive atmosphere is exciting and we’ll compare our scores, but we will celebrate the achievements of those working alongside us just as much as our own. The CrossFit Open might be an individual competition, but it is the time of year when the community is the strongest.
The Open is for everybody. With the addition of a scaled division last year, it became even more inclusive. It gives us all an opportunity to experience CrossFit as a sport in a safe and friendly environment, within our own box. The thrill of competition is something many of us give up when we reach adulthood. The Open lets us all have a taste of that exhilaration once again.
Watching a group of people from diverse backgrounds all rally together around the one thing that they have in common- a love of barbells and sweat and honest hard work- is incredibly powerful.
We surprise ourselves with what we are capable of. The adrenaline of a little friendly competition lights a fire within us. For five weeks, lawyers, students, moms, dads, teachers, secretaries and servers all become athletes.

Now here’s how we’re going to make it extra fun! The CFB Intramural! We’ll be dividing the box into four teams, and points will be awarded over the 5 weeks for participation and performance. Teams will be drafted on February 19th, so please sign up with Jordan or Georgia now. All you have to do is show up and do the WOD each Friday (or on the weekend if necessary.) EVERYONE can participate, RX or Scaled. Stay tuned for more details.
